Winter Wonderland 2016
Cardiff’s great seasonal attraction is back to give the city centre its famous festive sparkle, and this year local major employer Admiral are on board – and there is a brand new additional feature built on to keep skaters dry as the attraction becomes Cardiff’s Winter Wundercoverland
Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland with Admiral Ice Rink will run from Thursday November 10 to Tuesday January 3, and after one of the wettest winters on record last year, organiser Sayers Amusements are reducing the risk of people missing out on skating sessions by looking to keep skaters super dry with a clear span roof and night sky lights.
Cancer Research Wales is this year’s charity for Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland
The beneficiary charity this year for Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland is the current Lord Mayor’s Charity – Cancer Research Wales, with funds raised going to clinical and laboratory based cancer research in universities and hospitals across Wales, including Velindre Cancer Centre, which is a centre of excellence for the non-surgical treatment of cancer.
Cardiff’s great seasonal attraction brings its festive sparkle back on November 10 for 55 days of skating fun, and this year’s ice rink features a brand new addition built on to keep skaters dry as the attraction becomes Cardiff’s Winter Wundercoverland with a clear span roof that offers fantastic views of City Hall, and night sky lights.
The popular crowd puller in the heart of the city will draw around a quarter of a million visitors over eight weeks, so there is plenty of opportunity for fundraising activities, including:
– bucket collections
– collection tin at Nativity
– banners throughout venue
– weekly raffle – VIP tickets for a family of four to Winter Wonderland
– Sunday before Christmas – a candle by night event
Katie Killoran, Corporate Fundraiser with Cancer Research Wales said: “Cancer Research Wales are delighted to have been chosen as charity partner this year at Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland. The money raised from this partnership will help bring advances in cancer prevention, treatment and cure closer to home here in Wales. Thank you so much for your support!”
Operator Norman George Sayers of Sayers Amusements said: “Some of the world’s leading cancer research takes place in Wales. Cancer Research Wales is a terrific charity and appropriately the current Lord Mayor’s Charity, so we are particularly excited to partner with them, and hope that the generous people of south Wales will raise a great amount over the eight weeks of Winter Wonderland.”
